Name environmental pilots or grant-funded programs that should stop.

Name the largest environmental liability being handed to the next Council.

Judge the final environmental record by whether Owen Sound took better care of its water, land, river, trees, infrastructure, energy and public assets than it did four years earlier.

A strong Environmental Stewardship Scorecard should allow residents to ask:

Is the water system reliable?

How much water are we losing?

Where does flooding keep happening?

What was actually fixed?

Are the trees we planted still alive?

Is the river being cared for?

Are City buildings actually using less energy?

Did the retrofit save what we said it would?

Are vehicles being replaced because the numbers make sense?

What contaminated land does the City own or risk acquiring?

What is the environmental liability?

What are we repairing instead of throwing away?

What severe-weather problem are we preparing for?

What outside grant did we accept?

What long-term obligation came with it?

What did not work?

What problem is still unresolved?

Those questions are more useful than asking whether the City has:

the right environmental branding.

Municipal environmental stewardship should be understandable even to residents who disagree strongly on national environmental politics.

A well-maintained pipe does not have a political party.

A surviving tree does not have an ideology.

A flood-resistant street does not require a slogan.

An efficient public building reduces cost regardless of why someone supports it.

Responsible environmental government is therefore grounded in:

Protect what we own. Repair what is failing. Know what is contaminated. Keep the water moving safely. Keep the river healthy. Plant trees we can keep alive. Reduce waste where it makes sense. Use less energy through real efficiency. Prepare for bad weather. Measure the result, not the label.
